This trip started out as a replacement for a Colorado rafting trip I had to miss because of changing assignments at work. Betsy had never seen Southwest Utah, so we decided to hike Zion and Bryce National Parks. With my love for fly fishing, I also wanted to sneak in a few days of lurking after lunkers. We stayed in Las Vegas on each end of the trip...and enjoyed the entertainment and great food.
Part of the reason we are creating this page of photos is to recruit one or two couples to return with us in June 2006. We would like to share this great adventure with friends.
We have discovered that many National Parks have great fly fishing nearby.
Shopping excursions fit into every stop.
...and we had a variety of weather...due to late snow falls in Spring. Yes, this is snow that is still on the ground at high elevations!
Photo before hiking...none allowed at end of day!
Zion had some great trails..but nothing like Bryce.
There were many animals along the trails...some bigger than others.
Our cabin at Bryce was outstanding!
The rivers were a bit high due to late snows and a heat wave that came through during the week we were there. We will return in June 2006 to ensure the stream levels are down.
There are 40 good fishing sites within a 1 hr drive from Zion and Bryce...with every kind of mountain trout.
One of the highlights of the trip was finding Panguitch Anglers Fly Shop & Inn and managers Jan & Jerry Drummond. Jerry gave us a tour of the Panguitch cabins and rooms. Great location near fly fishing waters and the parks.
Panguitch has some great creations in addition to hospitality.
...and all good fishing trips must end with good food and shopping...says Betsy!
Betsy was a trouper going out to look for fly fishing streams...in the back country!
